Life is chaotic. It ebbs and flows… and sometimes it very much overflows!

Do you ever find yourself yearning for a smoother, simpler, less chaotic life?

You’ll often hear me talk about flow state – where life is breezy and feels good and things just run smoothly. I believe the more organised things are, the more likely things will flow in this way.

But in reality, flow is rarely a constant state, and more often than not, we operate in overwhelm and we struggle with more things than we can manage.

But how do we get to a point where we flow more and overflow less?

Well, if there’s one thing I know about dealing with the various states of flow, it’s that getting clear on who does what in your household is key. Just think about this scenario:

You’ve worked a ten-hour day where nothing went right, before going to parent teacher interviews and now you have to prepare a grant application for your local sports club as promised. Yet, you find yourself talking to your mother-in-law about something that can really wait and don’t want to end the call because you’re worried about appearing rude. You haven’t yet paid that overdue bill or signed the school form for tomorrow, and you’ve just realised tax time is looming and you are way behind with getting that up to date for your partner. All you want is some sleep… but you can barely even remember what that is!

With so many balls in the air, the mental load of home/life admin is crippling.

It’s time to pause, connect with what is going on, and ask yourself, have you got your household roles sorted out?

What if all the balls you’re trying to juggle are thrown in a BIG transparent tub? A tub with two handles, not just one so it can be carried by two people. Doesn’t it feel lighter with two of you? And isn’t it easier to see all the balls at once this way? Nothing gets lost because both of you can see inside and ensure that unnecessary things don’t get dumped in the tub and that it doesn’t overflow.

It’s vital that your household foundation is a team, one where you aren’t always the ‘knower of all things’, and works together to improve communications and put new systems in place. Having this mindset will help you “tackle the tub” because when the tub is carried by more than just you, the flow is easier to achieve.

Imagine that!
