Are you tired of running against the clock?

I couldn’t believe my eyes when Easter eggs started hitting the shelves in January. And now it’s here! If you’re like me you will be scratching your head asking, ‘when did that happen?’ Or possibly, you’ve hit the panic button.

I hear you. It if feels like we’ve just gotten over Christmas! The kids are barely back to school and it’s holidays again, we’ve only just finished harvest, shearing’s been stopping and starting, and suddenly Easter is here.

If you’ve been struggling to get organised and on the front foot with your year; if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by the unrelenting emotional, mental, and physical effort of parenthood and life management; if you’ve been feeling like you’re up against the clock every day, you are not alone.

The good news is, it’s never too late to get sorted and begin with these five easy steps:

  1. Let’s start by taking five. Stand still for a moment, take a breath, put on the kettle and have a cuppa…. You’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll feel.

  2. Next pause a little longer to listen. Just observe all those things still running through your head – the things you need to remember, things you should do, could do, need to do, want to do… it may feel endless.

  3. It’s time to grab a pen and write all those things down. Yes, all of them. Don’t overthink it, just let them flow out. Anything and everything, in random order and keep going until they are all down on paper…. Then quickly turn it over – don’t even look at it.

  4. Pause again… and breathe. You might feel like you want to jump into action straight away but just let yourself connect with it. Let it sink in.

  5. Now, pat yourself on the back! You’ve just extracted or lightened the mental load! Brain dumped. Mind dumped – whatever you want to call it. You’ve been carrying that around in your head and now it’s out of the headspace and into the reality of a to-do list. And my guess is that right about now you are feeling a smidge better.

You see, every great sorting effort starts with laying it all out. You’ve just taken one of the first steps to getting more organised, and most importantly easing the mental load and overwhelm. You are now ready for action.
